A better day than of late greeted the start of the NWFTA summer series at Tawd Vale. This was my first FT shoot for a while after my forced dabble into SFT. My scope is still not back yet but I have been given (very kindly) an EV2/Big nikko combo for the Inter-regional next weekend. I went to the plinking range and everything seemed ok apart from a few dropping low and longer ranges.
I booked in with Dave Hill and we went to lane 2 after a 1 minute silence for RIchard Lees who sadly passed away in March. Dave and I both made an excellent start with me only missing a full distance target that the wind pushed down and Dave a 15mm at 13or so yards that he made a mess of his turret clicks with. After 20 targets we were both on 19 and I was really happy with my borrowed set up and a potential PB score!

As you may have guessed by the title, my second half didn't go as well and was reminiscent of my BFTA Championship melt down were I was about 19/20 then missed 6/8! A few seemed to be going low and on "easy" targets too. Dave was still doing really well and with only the final standing lane to go had only missed to. My score was already ruined. We made our way back to lane 1 for our final standers and both missed the far one. This put me on 27/40 and Dave on 37/40 only second to Dave Schofield on 38. I would've been happy with 27 using a borrowed gun before we shot but am gutted after making such a good start. We even choroned the gun at the end and to see if there was a problem. 778-782fps suggests user error - So it looks like a classic "wheels come off". Hope I can have more like the first 20 targets at the Inters next week - Good luck Team NWFTA.
